چکیده

Many different techniques and researches on reducing the radiation dose for computed tomography (CT) examinations have been reported and developed in recent 30 years. However, most those technologies are not practical enough to enable them to be directly and easily implemented in clinic real applications because there is no directly relationship between those techniques and the actual CT scanning parameters to be applied on most clinic pediatric CT examinations. In this study, a practical and flexible technique chart is developed to enable radiologists to select the optimal tube voltage and tube current for the given body-size of the pediatric patients with the desired CT dose index (CTDIvol). This chart can be easily implemented in most clinics for routine pediatric CT examinations. Keywords— fuzzy inference system; reduction of radiation dose; pediatric CT examinations; optimal tube voltage; optimal tube current

Estimation of Absorbed and Effective Doses in Organs through Computed Tomography Examinations Using Automatic Exposure Control and Fixed Tube Current Techniques: A Phantom Case Study

Introduction: The study aimed to assess absorbed and effective doses in organs through computed tomography (CT) examinations using automatic exposure control (AEC) and fixed tube current (FTC) techniques. Material and Methods: Scanning parameters were obtained for routine adult CT examinations and used to estimate the organ absorbed and effec...

Image Optimization and reduction of radiation dose in CT of the paranasal sinuses

Introduction: Since demand for computed tomography (CT) examinations is growing, patients are exposed more frequently to ionizing radiation. To reduce the dose delivered to patients in each scan, CT technologists can change the image acquisition parameters. However, this reduces image quality. Present study aimed to optimize and reduce radiation dose in a CT of the paranasal si...

Assessment of compliance levels of effective doses in pediatric CT

Introduction: Computed tomography (CT) is a medical imaging modality that produces 3-D cross-sectional images of tissues using several X-ray projections at different angles. Since its introduction in the 1970s, CT usage has been on the increase for both adults and pediatrics. A major challenge of this modality is the high doses of radiation exposure to patients, especially in p...
